Welcome to ROYOUTH, the initiative for young adults. We are pleased by your interest and provide information about the activities and goals of our initiative in this brochure.

We are a partner in helping adolescents to discover and develop their individual skills. We offer an environment that enables a creative approach to tasks and the independent development of solutions. 
 

Our ROYOUTH Center is a “playground,” an environment for adolescents to give themselves and their talents a try in practice while having a lot of fun.

Our ROYOUTH initiative provides plenty of opportunities to create and experiment. We have a range of offerings primarily for young people in our region. As such, we do not compete with other organizations that stimulate young people; instead, we want to support youth employment as an additional, cooperative initiative. 
 

Discover talents at ROYOUTH

ROYOUTH gives adolescents the opportunity to try things out for themselves in different fields and to discover their own talents. The compass symbolizes orientation in search of the right path to new galaxies. Our slogan intends to encourage the discovery and development of individual strengths in the fields of natural sciences and technology, economics and society, and, not least, music and the arts.

It is our aim to support adolescents during their discovery of talents – as a school class, as a team in the afternoon or in the context of a competition. We are also open to suggestions from the adolescents. We accept their exciting ideas in person at the ROYOUTH Center, by phone and by e-mail, and we incorporate them into our program. We are open to (almost) any experiment. Our team is delighted by new suggestions, innovative ideas and creative collaboration.

Our objective: nurturing talent

We are convinced that skills develop best when we have fun doing something. We prefer not to practice the paths of the past – the focus at ROYOUTH is on fun and creativity. We want to support adolescents discovering and developing their individual talents. The ROYOUTH initiative promotes creativity, independence and self-confidence of adolescents with different activities in the morning and afternoon.

Our target group

Our initiative addresses students from the time they enter secondary school to when they start an apprenticeship or attend university. We expressly focus on both genders, and our ROYOUTH Center usually welcomes mixed-gender groups. The ROYOUTH initiative is open to all adolescents, regardless of whether their parents work for the ROSEN Group or not.

The concept: simply do it

Increasing diversity and a great number of vocational opportunities can cause an inability to “miss the forest for the trees.” Those adolescents who are most aware of their talents will find it easier to select their profession and the right path. Therefore, their ability to assess their own strengths is paramount. Because opportunities to try out their talents in different fields are missing, many adolescents are not aware of their skills.

Our range of programs

We have compiled an exciting range of activities, which will be continuously developed, and we think that “the end of the road” has certainly not yet been reached: some actions were kick-started by the ideas of the adolescents themselves. The offerings include experiment days, such as programming courses or fine motor skills soldering exercises, and afternoon activities, such as a Movie AG.

Competitions and initiatives

Besides our own range of offerings, we support initiatives that allow adolescents to pit their talents against each other. Dating back to 2005, our commitment in this area is continuously expanded. Initiatives we support are, among others, Jugend forscht, Management Information Game (MIG), or Formula 1 in Schools

Visits related to specific topics

It is often the best to gain an impression of something for yourself. We offer visits for each age group to permit an insight into a range of different topics. Our focus is on facilitating connections between theory and practice.

Experiment days

Three students give free rein to their creativity when building bridges

Creativity in bridge building

After a brief introduction to how different types of bridges work, participants get to work on their own designs. The aim is to find the best compromise between the bridge's weight and its load-bearing capacity. At the end, the bridges are tested for performance and load-bearing capacity.

Building marble runs

The task is to build a marble run on which the marble runs for as long as possible. There are no building instructions for this—the young people should develop their own designs using various materials. They can work creatively in small teams here. At the end, we time how long their marbles run.

Mini-city ROTOPIA

ROTOPIA is a team workshop based on individual creative freedom and harmonious team building, creating a productive, happy, and healthy atmosphere for everyone. The goal is to create a miniature city model in which participants would enjoy working and living.

Stop-motion films with LEGO©

We want to work with young people to create a short stop-motion film using LEGO©. They build their own set from LEGO©, come up with a short storyline, photograph the individual steps of the storyline, and then use software to combine them into a short film.

CAD drawing for beginners

Here, young people learn how to create small drawings on the computer and then have them cut out by a programmable Styrofoam cutting machine. First, they draw a silhouette of their head and then use this to create 3D figures out of Styrofoam.

Programming with Scratch

The Scratch platform teaches young people the basics of programming. A graphical programming language makes it easy to get started with this topic. Together, we use Scratch to create an electronic birthday card to learn about the platform's functions, after which there are no limits to creativity.

Programming course for beginners

With the Calliope mini, a single-board computer, and the Open Roberta Lab, young people learn the basics of programming. A graphical programming language makes it easy to get started with this topic. Together, we use the Calliope mini to program an alarm system, an alarm clock, and much more.

Fine motor soldering exercises

At the beginning, the young people “write” their names on a breadboard with solder to learn how to use a soldering iron. After that, they can build fantasy figures or electronic circuits such as a dice or memory game. Depending on their experience and talent, we have prepared kits with different levels of difficulty for the young people.

Company tour

This tour provides an interesting insight into many different departments of the ROSEN Group in Lingen (Ems). There, the young people will see how many employees and specialist departments are involved in product development (from the initial idea to the finished product).

Building loudspeakers

In this workshop, young people build their own loudspeakers using magnets, copper wire, Styrodur, rubber bands, and cardboard. They also solder an amplifier and have the opportunity to design and decorate the loudspeaker according to their own taste. At the end, the loudspeaker can be connected to a cell phone to play their favorite music.

Build your own wind turbine

Using specified materials but without instructions, the young people work in teams to construct a wind turbine. They then compete to see which turbine generates the most energy. The voltage is measured using professional measuring equipment.

Create your own app

With our help, young people use MIT's browser-based software to create their first app. Step by step, they first design the interface and then develop the functions of a digital TicTacToe game. They can then download this app to their smartphones and use it to their heart's content.

Fabulous amusement park (for elementary schools)

We work with your students to build and program a fabulous amusement park using LEGO© Education. This experiment day introduces students to the design and construction of machines. They learn how to identify a problem, gather ideas for solutions, and finally test and adapt prototypes to improve their own ideas.

Minecraft-AG

In this club, we work as a team to recreate well-known buildings to scale in Minecraft. To do this, we look at photos and plans, measure them, and first create a 2D drawing. This is then recreated as realistically as possible in Minecraft. In addition to teamwork skills, this primarily trains media literacy and spatial awareness.

LEGO-AG

The FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge is a research and robotics competition in which young people compete as teams in the categories of team performance, research project, robot design, and robot game. The last two categories require the construction and programming of a LEGO® robot.

Movie-AG

Together with the young people, we want to make our own short films in this working group. We develop an idea, write the storyboard, design sets and costumes, and after filming, we edit and add sound to the recordings so that we end up producing our own film. We need a wide range of talents for this project so that every young person can find a suitable role for themselves.

Holiday care

ROYOUTH offers various activities for students from the 5th grade onwards during the school holidays in Lower Saxony. During this time, we will be organizing many exciting activities with the children and young people.

Regular childcare is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Additional childcare is available during special opening hours from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

How did the “ROYOUTH” initiative come about?

Our sponsor, the ROSEN Group in Lingen(Ems), has been committed to promoting young researchers for over 20 years with support programs and action days. These activities have now been bundled into an independent non-profit initiative called “ROYOUTH” to support young people, regardless of their background, nationality or type of school, in discovering and developing their individual interests.

The ROYOUTH Center

Our ROYOUTH Center provides everything required for crafting and building, programming, presenting and discussing across more than 400 square meters. We have well-equipped rooms and space for more than 40 young talents to work simultaneously.

The group workspaces, subdivided as project rooms, facilitate quick and uncomplicated communications and a good overview. Furthermore, the ROYOUTH Center is equipped with mobile internet access, printers and visual aids. It borders on the premises of the ROSEN Group in Lingen (Ems).
